MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union recently held a reception for the recipients of their 2017 Tom Bentley Memorial Scholarship program.

Nia Foy, of Warner Robins, has been awarded the 2017 High School Scholarship. A graduate of Houston County High School, Miss Foy will attend Tuskegee University this fall and major in Chemical Engineering. The high school scholarship is a $4,000 award that is paid to the recipient’s college in installments of $1,000 per year.

Taylor Howell, of Jeffersonville, has been awarded the 2017 Continuing Education Scholarship. Ms. Howell, a 2014 graduate of Twiggs Academy, is currently earning her degree in Accounting at Mercer University. The continuing education scholarship is a $2,000 award that is paid to the recipient’s college in installments of no more than $500 per semester.

Applicants were judged on the basis of grades, SAT and ACT scores, service provided in school and in the community, recommendations by teachers or administrators, and financial need.

This year’s Scholarship Committee was comprised of Beth Byers, Executive Director of Development at Middle Georgia State University; Cindy Cerka, Local Sales Team Leader for 13WMAZ; and Brenda Griffin, Assistant Director of the Business Services Unit for the Georgia Department of Labor.
