Best Uses for HELOCsA common way in which homeowners can cover expenses is by tapping into the equity they’ve built up in their homes through a home equity line of credit (HELOC). HELOC’s are versatile in that you can use the funds for almost anything, however some uses are better than others. Here are four great uses for a HELOC. 1. Home Improvement/Remodeling – Using HELOC funds for home renovations comes with tax advantages. The interest you pay can be deducted on your tax return if the funds are used to substantially improve or repair the home. Plus, HELOCs allow for accessing large sums over time which can be useful for long term renovation projects. 2. Education – HELOC funds are great for covering college tuition because you draw funds as you need them – for a semester or a year – and you only owe interest on what you take out. 3. Emergency Fund – It’s good practice to have an emergency fund that covers three to six months of living expenses should you suffer a job loss or other emergency situation. However, a HELOC can also be used to cover such expenses as you can withdraw funds as you need them. 4. Debt Consolidation – HELOCs generally offer lower interest rates than unsecured loans and credit cards so they can be a good choice to pay off your credit cards or to bundle your debts into one single payment. |

Protect your data online with these cyber hygiene tipsCyber hygiene refers to the practices and steps taken to protect your digital assets and information from cyber threats. By practicing the following good cyber hygiene tips, you can ensure the safety and security of your digital assets and information while online! • Turn on Multifactor Authentication – MFA is an effective security measure that requires an extra form of identification (PIN, fingerprint, confirmation text), on top of your password, when trying to access your accounts. • Update Your Software – Keeping your devices up to date with the latest security patches and utilizing automatic updates for operating systems, antivirus software, and applications will help protect your data from cybercrime. • Recognize and Report Phishing – Be cautious of unsolicited phishing emails, texts, and calls that ask for personal information. Don’t click on links or attachments from unknown sources and avoid sharing sensitive information or credentials over the phone or email. • Use Strong Passwords – Make sure your passwords are long, unique, random, and include all four-character types. Password managers are great tools to create and store passwords for you. |
