These days, scammers are getting more creative—and more convincing. A text that looks like it’s from your credit union. An email that says your account was compromised. A link that leads to what looks like a real login page.
But if you click before you think, you could hand over sensitive information to a fraudster without even realizing it.
Let’s break down what you need to watch out for—and how to stay ahead of the scams.
Red Flag Messages: What to Look For
You might get a text or email that says something like:
- “Your account has been locked. Click here to unlock it.”
- “Suspicious activity detected. Confirm your card number immediately.”
- “Verify your online banking info now or your access will be revoked.”
They may look official, but they’re fake. These messages are designed to create panic so you’ll act fast—and hand over your information without thinking.
Know This: We Will Never Ask for…
If a message asks for any of the following, it’s a scam:
- Your full debit or credit card number
- Your PIN or CVV code
- Your online banking username or password
- One-time passcodes you receive via text or email
MidSouth Community FCU will never request this information via text, email, or phone. Ever.
How to Handle a Suspicious Message
Stop: Don’t click any links, download attachments, or respond.
Check: Go directly to your account through our app or website—not through the message.
Call: If you’re unsure, call us at 478.471.9946. We’re always happy to help confirm whether a message is legitimate.
Scammers are counting on you to be busy, distracted, or uncertain. Taking just a moment to pause and verify can protect your money—and your peace of mind.
