Keep the Holidays Festive, and the Fraud on Ice!

Digital wallets and card controls² can add convenient layers of protection whether you’re shopping
online or in stores.

The holidays bring more shopping, and more opportunities for fraud. Digital wallets and card controls can
add convenient layers of protection whether you’re shopping online or at the store.

A digital wallet stores a digital version of your card on a compatible device. Instead of sharing your actual
card number during a purchase, many wallets use a unique transaction code, helping protect your
payment information. Device security features such as a passcode, fingerprint or facial recognition can
provide additional protection.

Card controls available through the MidSouth Mobile app may also allow you to:

  • Temporarily turn a misplaced card off and back on when it is found
  • Set purchase or transaction limits
  • Control where or how your card can be used
  • Receive real-time transaction alerts
  • Report a card lost or stolen

Before holiday shopping begins, add eligible cards to your preferred digital wallet and review the card control features available in your mobile app. A few quick updates now can help you shop with greater confidence throughout the holiday season.

2 Digital wallet and card control availability and features may vary by card, device, and service provider.

3 Annual Percentage Rate | Visa® credit card applications are subject to credit approval. Certain terms & conditions apply. Variable Rate. The ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE is subject to change on the first day of the billing cycle, monthly to reflect any change in the Index and will be determined by the Prime Rate on the last business day of the quarter, preceding the billing cycle, of each year as published in The Wall Street Journal “Money Rates” table to which we add a margin. The ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE will never be greater than 18.00%. Any increase in the ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE will take the form of additional payments shown as Total Minimum Payments on the statement. If the Index is no longer available, the Credit Union will choose a new index that is based on comparable information. The Minimum Payment Due is 3.00% of your total New Balance, or $25, whichever is greater, play any amount past due and any amount by which you have exceeded your applicable credit limit. If your total New Balance is less than $25, then your Minimum Payment Due is the amount of the total New Balance. 4 The Visa® Platinum Rewards credit card has the ability to earn rewards. Want to Improve Your Credit Score? Start with These Tips!

Improving your credit doesn’t require big moves, just consistent ones over time. Small habits can make a big impact on your financial future, helping you qualify for better rates, loans, and opportunities down the road.

Start building stronger credit with these simple steps:

  • Pay bills on time
  • Keep balances low
  • Limit new credit applications
  • Review your credit report regularly

The key is consistency. Stay on track, and you’ll build momentum, because small steps today can open bigger doors tomorrow.

AI-Powered Scams Are Getting Smarter

Scammers are now using artificial intelligence (AI) to create highly convincing messages, including realistic voices, emails, and even video deepfakes that appear to come from people you trust.

What to watch for
AI-powered scams can take many forms, including:

  • Phone calls that sound like your credit union, employer, or even a family member
  • Voice messages or videos that appear real but are actually manipulated (deepfakes)
  • Highly personalized emails that use your name, recent activity, or familiar details

Why it matters
In the past, scams were easier to spot. Today, that’s no longer the case. These messages can sound and look authentic, making it harder to rely on instinct alone. If something feels urgent or unusual, it’s worth taking a second look.

Protect yourself:

  • Don’t act on urgency, pause before responding
  • Never share passwords, PINs, or verification codes
  • Verify requests by contacting the person or organization directly using a trusted number
  • Be cautious of unexpected messages, even if they seem familiar

As scams evolve, awareness is your best defense. When in doubt, slow down and verify because even the most convincing message may not be what it seems.

REMEMBER!
Your credit union will never ask for sensitive information like passwords, PINs, or full account details through unexpected calls, texts, or emails. If something doesn’t feel right, pause before you respond. Verify the request by contacting your credit union directly using a trusted phone number or website.

Time for a Mid-Year Financial Check-up

The halfway point of the year is the perfect time to pause, review, and reset your financial plan. A quick check-in now can help you stay on track or make smart adjustments before year-end.

Here are five simple ways to give your finances a mid-year refresh:

  1. Revisit Your Budget
Take a look at your spending so far and adjust where needed. Have any life changes—like a new job, growing family, or major purchase—shifted your priorities? Make sure your budget reflects your current reality.
  2. Check Your Credit Score
Review your credit to ensure everything looks accurate. It’s also a smart way to catch signs of fraud early and stay prepared for any future borrowing needs.
  3. Review Your Investments
Evaluate how your investments are performing and whether they still align with your long-term goals. This is a great time to consider increasing contributions, especially toward retirement.
  4. Adjust Your Tax Withholding
Check your current withholdings to avoid surprises later. The goal: not owing a large amount or overpaying and missing out on money you could be using now.
  5. Tackle Your Debt
List out your balances and focus on paying down high-interest debt first, while continuing to make minimum payments on the rest. A clear plan can help you make steady progress toward becoming debt-free.

A mid-year checkup doesn’t have to take long, but it can make a big difference. Small adjustments today can set you up for a stronger finish to the year.

We also offer in-person Financial Check-ups as a member benefit. Schedule yours today. To schedule, select Other Financial Needs, then choose Financial Check-up.
